The little girl, who was born in 2000 and lives in Virginia, USA, became a hit on the Youtube last week with video clips in which she plays guitar solos of songs by Trinh Cong Son (Mot coi di ve, Tuoi da buon, and Chi Mai) and other famous musicians (Pink Floyd’s Another brick on the wall, Bon Jovi’s Living on a prayer, Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean, and The Beatles’ Here comes the sun).
Virginia began uploading her video clips on Youtube nearly one year ago.
On her YouTube profile page she wrote when she joined in July last year: “My name is Virginia and I’ve just turned 10 years old. I'm just a beginner and I learn by myself. I started playing the guitar around one month ago.”
She has also created a website to share guitar tabs of famous songs.
“I used to ask for tabs but was refused as they said they mostly improvised. Some gave tabs for American songs but only 60 percent was correct and did not resemble what they performed. I listened and rewrote and so now it sounds like what they play,” she wrote.
She encourages everyone to download the tabs freely and revise as they like.
Virginia Nguyen has 273 friends and 328 subscribers around the world.
Virginia Nguyen is compared to Jung Sung-ha, a Korean guitar prodigy, who can play fingerstyle like Virginia. Jung Sung-ha, 15, became a “phenomenon” when his guitar-playing clips attracted 100 million views on Youtube last year. This boy attracted the online community’s attention with his first clip on Youtube in 2006, at the same age of Virginia Nguyen.
Virginia Nguyen cannot play guitar as well as Jung Sung-ha but she is excellent in comparison with kids of the same age. Her fundamental techniques are very good. She is also very eager to learn.
